Náam Jai (น้ำใจ 📣), nam jai, is generosity and kindness given freely. A heart that creates abundance. Literally it means “water of the heart.” Náam is water, jai is heart. In Thailand, water means abundance: water in the fields becomes rice, water in the rivers becomes fish. A water heart is one that produces plenty and shares it. You meet it daily: a meal shared with whoever is near, an extra mango slipped into your bag, help that arrives before you ask. Where nam jai gives freely, kreeng jai holds back, so as not to impose. Two sides of the Thai heart.
